Seiko Watch Straps: Complete Replacement Guide (All Models, 2026)
Few watch brands inspire the kind of loyalty Seiko does. From the entry-level Seiko 5 automatics to the dive-spec Prospex line, the dressy Presage collection and the legendary SKX series, Seiko watches are built to last a lifetime — and the right Seiko watch strap can completely change how one wears. This 2026 pillar guide covers lug widths, recommended materials, common pitfalls and the best aftermarket bands for every major Seiko family.
Quick truth: Seiko uses standard spring-bar lugs across nearly every model, so the world of Seiko replacement bands is enormous. The trick is knowing your watch’s lug width — and that’s the first thing this guide will tell you.
Seiko Lug Width Reference — Find Your Size
Seiko lug widths run from 18mm to 22mm depending on case size. Here are the most common modern references:
- 20mm: Seiko 5 Sports (most modern SRPD/SRPE references), Prospex SPB143/SPB147, Presage Cocktail Time (40.5mm), Alpinist SARB017 and modern Alpinist SPB121, SKX007/009 (the classic dive watch)
- 22mm: Prospex Turtle (SRP777, SRPE03), Prospex Samurai, Prospex Tuna (47mm), Prospex Sumo (45mm), Seiko 5 Sports SRPG (44mm versions)
- 19mm: Many vintage 7S26 Seiko 5 models (SNK series), Sumo earlier references
- 18mm: Smaller Presage dress models, vintage Seiko quartz dress watches
- 21mm (rare): Some vintage King Seiko references
The fastest way to verify your size is to remove the existing strap and measure between the inside of the lugs with a digital caliper. Or check the official spec sheet for your reference number — it’s always listed.

Seiko Strap Material Guide
Rubber & FKM
The Seiko Prospex line was built for the water. A high-quality FKM rubber strap is the obvious upgrade from the stock rubber — denser, chlorine-resistant and harder-wearing. Tropic-style and waffle-style FKM straps in 20mm and 22mm look fantastic on the SKX, Turtle and Samurai references.
Nylon NATO & Zulu
The SKX007 on a black-and-grey Bond NATO is one of the most iconic looks in watch enthusiast culture. NATO straps work brilliantly on every modern Seiko Prospex and the entire Seiko 5 line — they’re cheap, washable, and the redundant double-pass design means the watch can’t fall off if one spring bar fails.
Leather
The Presage Cocktail Time and Alpinist references shine on leather. Full-grain Italian leather, brown horween, or alligator-print all suit the dressier Seikos. For the rugged Prospex line, distressed leather or oiled nubuck is a stylish off-duty option.
Stainless-Steel Bracelets
Many Seiko owners upgrade their stock bracelet for a heavier, solid-link option. Oyster, jubilee, president and beads-of-rice bracelets in 20mm and 22mm transform any modern Seiko 5, Samurai or Sumo. Just make sure you order with the correct end-link curve for your reference.

How to Change a Seiko Watch Strap
- Lay the watch face-down on a soft cloth.
- Insert a spring bar tool into the gap between the lug and the spring bar. Most Seikos have small access notches.
- Press the spring bar inward to compress it, then lift the strap out of the lug.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Take the new strap, insert one fixed end of the spring bar into the lug hole, compress the other end and slide it into the corresponding hole. Release.
- Tug the strap to confirm it’s seated.
Note: Some Prospex divers ship with drilled lugs (visible spring-bar holes on the outside of the case). For those, you can use a fine pin pusher from the outside, which is significantly easier than the standard spring-bar method.
Seiko Watch Strap FAQ
What lug width does the Seiko SKX007 use?
22mm. Same goes for the SKX009.
Are Seiko 5 watches compatible with third-party straps?
Yes. Modern Seiko 5 Sports references use 20mm standard lugs, and any quality aftermarket strap fits perfectly.
Can I change a Seiko strap without a spring bar tool?
Technically yes, practically no. A €5 spring-bar tool prevents scratched lugs and broken spring bars.
